Go Norway! Rubic ensures the smooth running of this winter's major sporting events

Hello Norway

Winter in Norway offers a host of exciting sporting events, and this year Rubic is on the team to ensure that several of the biggest run smoothly. From the World Cup in Kvitfjell, via Holmenkollen Skifestival, to Vikersund and Lillehammer Raw Air and World Cup Drammen – all these events use Rubic's solutions for volunteers and accreditation.

For sports enthusiasts, winter in Norway is a celebration, with a host of major sporting events offering excitement and entertainment. But behind the scenes there is a whole world of planning, coordination and administration needed to make everything come together. This is where Rubic plays an important role, making sure everything runs like clockwork during ski festivals, World Cup and Raw Air events.

Not least, we're cheering on all our Norwegian competitors, who tend to do well regardless, but perhaps especially well when they compete with the fantastic Norwegian crowd behind them. Everyone knows the famous Kollen roar!

Here's a short overview:

World Cup Kvitfjell

From 2 to 5 March, Kvitfjell is once again host to the world's best alpine skiers and a big public celebration. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is the big favourite in the men's events, while Kajsa Vickhoff Lie and Ragnhild Mowinckel are the big favourites in the women's events after finishing 3rd and 5th respectively, and taking the first ever Norwegian championship medal in Super-G, at the World Championships in Courchevel/Meribel.

Holmenkollen Skifestival with the Nordic World Cup, RAW AIR and the Biathlon World Cup

Holmenkollen Skifestival, 9–19 March, is one of the highlights of the year for ski fans, not least because it is now being held with spectators for the first time since the pandemic began. First there will be cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined from 9 to 12 March, followed by biathlon from 16 to 19 March, where Johannes Thingnes Bø is one of the big favourites.

RAW AIR is what used to be called the ski jumping week (hoppuka), and consists of 16 ski jumps over ten days on four hills in Norway. A competition for both women and men. This year it will start with three days in Holmenkollen (10–12 March) before continuing in Lillehammer and finishing in Vikersund.

Lillehammer and Vikersund Raw Air

So it continues with extreme experiences, historic flights and a fantastic atmosphere in Lillehammer from 13 to 16 March and Vikersund from 17 to 19 March. 2023 will also be a historic year, as the women will finally finish RAW AIR in Vikersund. We're hoping for a comeback from Maren Lundby!

The competitions usually finish at Granåsen in Trondheim, but this hill is being rebuilt.

World Cup Drammen

World Cup Drammen takes place at the same time, from 12 to 14 March, with the World Cup sprint itself on the 14th. Before that, Vibeke Skofterud's children's ski race and the Næringsstafetten relay will be held.

Rubic takes care of the practicalities

With Rubic's solution for volunteer coordination and accreditation, the event organiser can focus on creating the best possible event, while Rubic's solutions take care of all the practicalities around registering and coordinating volunteers.

All three RAW AIR events share a common accreditation through Rubic's platform at Lillehammer Olympiaparken. This means everything will be available to everyone involved.

Lillehammer Olympiaparken, which organises a number of events (World Cup and Raw Air), and World Cup Kvitfjell have been with Rubic since the start, while Holmenkollen Skifestival, Vikersund Flying Team and Drammen World Cup are new customers this winter. Together they make up the largest winter sports event organisers in Norway. Having everyone on the same platform makes it easier to collaborate on everything from volunteer registration and recruitment to statistics and cooperation.

Developed in collaboration with Holmenkollen Skifestival

In spring 2022, the management of Holmenkollen Skifestival began looking for an alternative to the volunteer portal they already had. World Cup Kvitfjell and Lillehammer Olympiaparken had already been using Rubic's volunteer module for many years, and it was the latter organiser that told the festival about this system.

– There aren't many systems of this kind on the market, and Lillehammer Olympiaparken spoke highly of it. The original volunteer portal is probably more than good enough for most, with many good features for managing volunteers. At the same time, we are a relatively complex event organiser with some special needs. That's why we entered into a partnership with Rubic to develop the existing solution so that it also takes these needs into account, explains Jonas Islann Fremstad, marketing coordinator and volunteer manager at Holmenkollen Skifestival.

Over the course of the winter, large parts of the Norwegian skiing world have followed Holmenkollen Skifestival, which brings major benefits for all of them: – Over the last few months, Rubic has quite simply conquered winter Norway. We can see that many of those we work with and are in dialogue with now also use the same system as us. We see that as a big advantage, says Stefan Marx, general manager of Holmenkollen Skifestival, and continues: That way, volunteers only need to register their contact details once and can then choose which events they want to help out at. Our fantastic volunteers are often happy to help at several events a year.
