How your sports club can shine on Facebook

The Facebook page is the sports club's public face. Let the Facebook page inspire new and existing members, and show off your team in the best possible way. Below are some tips on how your sports club can shine on Facebook.

What do we want to communicate, and how?

Together with the website, the club's Facebook page is perhaps the most important shop window. What image do you want members and the wider community to have of the club? What type of content will you post – photos from events, videos, news stories? Vary between photos, video and text. Make sure the content is exclusively positive, and that it is clear and easy to understand for whoever is going to see it. Start with yourself. What do you think is good content when others post?

How often should we publish content?

Publish content regularly to keep your followers up to date and interested, but choose only the best and most important news stories. It is better to publish slightly fewer, good stories. Remember that not everyone sees everything, but the better the content, the more people it reaches. Events and live broadcasts are often highly visible.

What you need to watch out for

A Facebook page is a great tool, but there are also some pitfalls. Remember that it needs follow-up to work. Someone must have editorial responsibility for publishing content, which also means keeping an eye on comment sections etc. so that others don't post irrelevant content. Don't start debates on the sports club's page. Also remember that photos of children taking part in activities require parental permission.

The Facebook page as a tool for communicating with members

As mentioned above, it is not a given that everyone automatically sees every post published on the Facebook page. A great many people follow several Facebook pages, and it is easy for information to get lost along the way. If you want to be 100% sure that everyone receives what is written, the most effective approach is therefore to handle internal communication in a tool that is linked to the membership system.
