When Norges Studentidrettsforbund gathers up to 2,500 students for Studentlekene, the demands on structure, flexibility and execution are high. With up to 25 sports – from quidditch to European Championship qualifiers – this is among the most complex sporting events in Norway.
To meet this complexity, they chose to work with Rubic. The result was the development of Rubic Event with advanced team registration, combined with digital accreditation in the app.
– Studentlekene is a complex event with many sports taking place at the same time. It requires solutions that differ from what you see in traditional national federations, says Birte Sunde Leirvåg of Norges Studentidrettsforbund.
The need for a more robust solution
For more than ten years, Studentidrettsforbundet has used an in-house system for registration. As the events grew, the need for a more robust and scalable solution became clear.
– We have had a solution that has worked for a long time, but saw the need for a more sustainable and future-proof solution.
The choice fell on Rubic – and a partnership that moved at a fast pace from the start.
A close partnership with rapid progress
The partnership between Rubic and Studentidrettsforbundet has been close and hands-on, with a focus on progress and delivery.
– At Rubic, we felt heard and understood. Through regular status meetings, clear priorities and quick follow-up, we ensured good progress towards the first Studentlekene with Rubic Event.
Short decision-making paths and continuous development have been key to success.
Team registration that handles the complexity
One of the most important parts of the solution has been handling team registration across many sports, with different rules and requirements.
– Team registration has worked well, especially in the traditional ball sports.
For Studentidrettsforbundet, this is critical functionality:
– Among other things, we have rules on the maximum number of non-students per team, which vary from sport to sport. Having this work in Rubic Event is crucial for us.
Meanwhile, development continues in close collaboration:
– We are continuing to improve solutions, including those related to team managers.
Digital accreditation provides full control
During Studentlekene, Rubic Accreditation was also put to use. Participants received digital accreditation cards directly in the app – including access to events and products they had purchased.
This brought clear benefits for the event organiser:
– From the organiser's point of view, digital accreditation cards free up an enormous amount of time.
– In addition, digital accreditation cards help make the events more sustainable by reducing the need for physical wristbands and materials.
Previously, they had used physical solutions such as festival wristbands and lanyards – which are demanding to manage over several days.
With a digital solution, they got:
– Fast and efficient access control
– A full overview of participants and access rights
– Flexibility to adjust access along the way
– Adding the banquet and opening ceremony as products worked really well. We could easily add or remove access as needed.

Positive feedback from participants
The feedback after Studentlekene in Tromsø has been consistently positive, with a score of 4.04 out of 5.00 for the registration system.
– The team managers really appreciate having an overview of their team at all times.
At the same time, they have gained useful insight
– In sports where you sign up for several disciplines, the solution feels somewhat more complex. We will take this with us going forward.
A partnership that creates value
For Studentidrettsforbundet, it is not just the solution that matters – but how it has been developed.
– The biggest advantage is how closely we work with Rubic. There are short decision-making paths and little bureaucracy.
The next step is to take the solution even further:
– For the next Studentlekene, we want to use the app more actively for information and updates during the event.
The partnership shows how close dialogue between an event organiser and a technology partner can create solutions that actually work in practice – and lays a solid foundation for further development.
